Wave curtains add a touch of modern elegance to any space, but getting the measurements right is essential for a flawless finish. Here’s a detailed guide to help you measure your windows accurately for wave curtains:

Understanding Wave Curtains

Wave curtains are designed to hang gracefully on curtain tracks and poles with glider channels. When ordering made-to-measure wave curtains, two measurements are crucial:

Pole or Track Width: This is the length of the curtain pole or track (excluding any finials).

Finished Length (Curtain Drop): This is the measurement from the very top of the curtain to the bottom.

Measuring the Pole or Track Width

If you already have a curtain pole or track installed, simply measure its length. For new installations, measure the width of the window and add the desired curtain stacking space on each side of the window reveal to determine the pole or track width.

Calculating Stack Back

Stack back refers to the space that the curtain occupies when open. For wave curtains:

  • 80mm wave curtains will stack back approximately 18cm per meter of track.
  • 60mm wave curtains will stack back approximately 23cm per meter of track.

Measuring the Finished Length (Curtain Drop)

The finished length is the measurement from the top of the curtain to the bottom. Take left, centre, and right measurements to calculate the finished curtain length (drop). Choose the length that best suits your requirements.

Finish at the Sill: Measure from the bottom of the track to the windowsill. Deduct 1cm if you want the curtains to sit just above the sill.

Finish Below the Sill: Measure from the bottom of the track to your desired length past the sill.

Finish Above the Radiator: Measure from the bottom of the track to your desired length above the radiator.

Finish at the Floor: Measure from the bottom of the track to the floor. Deduct 1cm for floor clearance.

Installation Considerations

Window Mounting: For windows without architraves, fix the pole or track at least 10cm above the top of the window.

Ceiling Fixing: Measure from the ceiling to where you want the curtains to finish. Deduct the depth of the track profile and make any deductions for floor or windowsill clearance.

Final Checks

Before ordering, double-check that you have the pole/track width and finished length (curtain drop) correctly identified.
