6 ways window design can influence your interior
This entry was posted 19/12/2018
If you’re looking for ideas to make an impact in any room, a great starting point is the windows! So much more than just a practical building feature, your windows also make a big difference to the look, feel and mood of your home. Get inspiration from these window design ideas.
1. Frame the view
The look and feel of your interior isn’t just determined by what’s inside the room. The vista from your windows also plays a part, especially if there are elements of interest such as colourful flowers in the garden. Bring the outdoors in, and make a feature of the landscape outside your home by choosing your window design, drape colour and fixture style to enhance and complement the view. We recommend Wave curtains to frame your view with a stylish, minimalistic look.
2. Shapes and sizes
Unusually-shaped windows make a great feature in any home. Circular portholes and arches draw attention with their quirky style, while curved bay windows provide a focal point, and even a place to sit and relax. If you have an unusual or irregular window shape, you may need specially-designed bespoke curtain poles or tracks to fit. The Silent Gliss 6130 Metro Pole bends to your requirements – a great choice for bay windows.
3. Leadwork and lattices
Use your windows to introduce a historical feel with Tudor-style diamond-shaped lattices or gothic-style leaded glass. Stained glass also makes for a beautiful period feature, which will introduce a wonderful quality of light into your room. With these types of windows, it’s really important to choose your window dressing with care, opting for fittings that are consistent with the period, and that don’t detract from the beauty of the windows themselves. You could choose elaborate finials to echo the style of your period windows.
4. Bathroom privacy
Bathroom windows need to provide a source of light, but also offer a degree of privacy. There are a number of window design ideas to facilitate this, from frosted, textured and coloured opaque glass to window film coverings. If you prefer to keep normal, transparent glass windows in your bathroom, you could opt for shutters, blinds or a screen to offer modesty when you need it. These contemporary, double-layered roller blinds are a great choice for any bathroom.
5. Let in the light
Natural light can influence our mood and wellbeing. Wide, rectangular picture windows and floor-to-ceiling panes and skylights can all be used to flood your interior with sunlight. But when the sun goes down, you might want to shut the world out for a little while. Electric curtain tracks make it easy to close your curtains by remote control, or even on a timer – perfect for when you’re away.
6. Trap the heat
Your window design, including your choice of curtains, can have a noticeable effect on the warmth of the room in winter. Keep your home warm and cosy with curtains made from thick fabric, and opt for curtain tracks that are fitted close to the wall, so that heat doesn’t escape through any gaps. The Silent Gliss 3840 curtain track is a great choice for fitting your curtains flush to the ceiling.
